Vista Network File Sharing Problem

Situation - 2 Computers XP Professional and Vista Home Premium

After an afternoon of trial and error and googling I can use the XP computer to move/copy files to and from the Vista machine.
My problem is using the Vista to initiate either process.
In Vista the Network, Workgroup, and all shared Directories and Files are correct and visible.

The "destination folder access denied" "you need permission to perform this action" Window pops up.

It is NOT the Firewall (Windows Firewall) - Same results with it off.
It is NOT User Account Control - Same results with it off.
It is NOT Permissions - at least on the Vista machine.
I have tried XP Simple File Sharing - On and Off. (Checking Permissions) - Same results.

As a test I have a one line Notepad text file on both machines in properly set up Shared Directories. I cannot copy/drag it to the Vista machine or paste/drag it to the XP machine.

It is not intermitent or some work some don't. It seems to be solely a Vista problem.

Considering it is all windows and a home network it is hard to believe its this difficult.

Looking for Insight.

Welcome to WindowsBBS

The error message indicates it's a permission issue
Does the XP user profile have a password attached to it? If not - try that. When using the Vista machine to connect to the XP machine you should then get prompted for the XP's username and password.

If XP is set to Simple File Sharing (Folder Options) no password necessary.
If XP not Simple I logged in using Guest Account which has full privileges on the files and folders involved.

Additional Info - Both machines completely "Genuine" and fully Updated.

Try using a user account with a password.

Problem Solved

I want to thank everyone for suggestions. The problem was caused by McAfee VirusScan Enterprise installed on the XP machine. It would allow import and export of files from the resident machine, but not vise-versa regardless of permissions, with my settings no messages, alerts, etc. were being sent. A very frustrating, difficult and stubborn program to work with, removed and replaced.

Everything Fine.
