Randomly loose DSL connection, so need to reboot modem a couple times a day or most times works fine for a few days in a row. No correlation with weather or other. ISP is no help(small private family owned company). DSL has worked OK for years until 5 months ago. Maybe this is normal for DSL???
Running XP SP2, modem is Paradyne Mod 6381-A3-200 ADSL2+/R Bridge Router W programmed by the ISP, hardwired to Linksys Workgroup Switch then hardwired to PC. Same problem w/Switch removed. Updated driver for ethernet card and LAN settings set to auto. Changed cables with no improvement. Use ZoneAlarm.
Below is ipconfig display when connected and then after connection has been lost.

Thanks for the reply.
ISP replaced my original modem 2 months after disconnect problem started and now it is 3 months since that point in time. At that time ISP also had me buy a new phone as that was said that was the problem.......nothing changed...same old disconnect problem. Oh, they also charged me $40 for that service call.
Guess I am stuck then with having to rebooting as a normal condition as ISP is also the one and only phone company in my area. They have checked the line and say all is OK.
Thanks for all your suggestions, much appreciated.

Access the modem control panel via a Web browser. There should be a setting in there re "connection time out" or similar setting that "re-dials" the dsl connection every x seconds. Most dsl modems have such a setting & ISPs' default setting is to "kill the connection" after a short time period.
There are routers that can be used along side dsl modems that manage the dsl connection and keep the connection constant.
Are you losing the connection from the internet to your modem or from the modem to your computer? Losing the dsl connection shouldnt necessarily mess up your network connection. From your "ipconfig, it looks as if you are losing the connection from your computer to the modem. if you can get into your modem, try setting your dhcp lease to renew after a longer duration of time.... Also try going into cmd and type in ipconfg/renew and see what happens.

Will ask ISP for password when they open next week so I can get into modem and reset to longer lease period. Checked a neighbor and their lease is set to 1 day, not 1 hr like mine.
Ipconfig/renew command did reset to a new lease start time but my connection was OK anyway when this was done. Will try renew command when connection fails next.
Thanks, all your support is wonderful and much appreciated.
Sorry for the delay.....was away traveling unexpectedly. Hope the following provides a clue to the problem:
Had 4 connection failures yesterday during a 7 hr period. Lease time still set to 1 hr. by ISP and twice had no connection after 5 and 10 minutes into a new lease being established. However, ipconfig/all command did show lease time was still active but ipconfig/renew failed to make a connection. At end of lease period the lease did not renew, lease time details disappeared. At this point ipconfig/renew failed to make connection and gives a message saying, "Error occurred while renewing interface local connection. Unable to connect your DHCP server. Request has timed out." Rebooting modem was needed to make connection.
Ipconfig/renew does reset the lease times providing there is an existing connection.
the local isp that provides dsl locally has two initial steps with random internet connections
1) install a pci network card ( or usb) if you are using the onboard network card
2) if that does not work or do both is use a router to connect you to the network - even if you have only one computer
the router will connect you to the internet not your computer network card
