Cannot ping XP home box

Hi,
I recently add new box of Xp home in my NETWORK.I am able or may not able to network it properly.I am able to share the drive and printer works fine. But it take long time to open a share folders than I try to map the folders same Than I check weather it is pinging or not so the problem is here it is not ping the computer that is need to share but I can ping from this computer to new computer but when I go to new computer I can not ping old computer at all.But I can share the folders and printer is working as well when I share.I can do changes to the file and print it on the network but problem rises when I open the folder it taking long time than I check weather I can ping these 2 computers together so I can't ping old computer from new computer but I can ping from old computer to new computer.any idea They both are XP home and SP2 installed on both machine.

Looks like firewall is enabled on the old computer..
If windows firewall i enabled, do you have any other security software on it?

i'd temporarily disable the firewalls on both pc's just make sure it is the firewall blocking the ping. if it is blocking it you'll just need to configure the firewall to allow the ping. remember to enable the firewalls again after though.

i wouldnt personally both with uninstalling and reinstalling the nic.
