Ok so I have 2 computers, one desktop and one laptop and an xbox I would like to network together. But I can't seem to figure out how...in the desktop I have 2 NIC cards so I could use it for the main portal and have the xbox going out from there as well as the laptop.
What I want to know is how to network the 2 computers and the xbox together, WITHOUT a router, I have no router since I am on dial up and have no need to for one if I must buy a router then I will but if not then please help me out
Once again Desktop has 2 NIC cards.

Your still need a switch or hub for all the devices to plug into.
You will only need one network card on the desktop.
You will need to setup ICS on the desktop. (Internet Connection sharing)
The Router is the easiest way to go.
You plug the devices in the lan ports ( 4 port area) not into the one wan port
A switch or a hub can be cheaper perhaps.
Routers are often on sale with rebates to get customers with a number of computers into big box stores..
You can hook two devices together - two computers or a computer and an xbox with a crossover cable.
However these are often highly priced compared to standard ethernet cables.
Connecting 3 devices would be a bit more complex
Best to get a router on sale or a used one.
The wireless routers are usually the ones on sale. You can turn off the wireless function.
