network between XP & ME

I have a network w/ XP NT4 & ME systems. I exchange files between XP & NT
and ME & NT4 but not ME & XP. I can't ping the ME machine.
Can some suggest a debugging check list. I am stumped....

Do you have a personal firewall installed such as ZoneAlarm, Sygate, or Norton Internet Security?
