I am running 2 computers networked together in a wired/wireless environment.
I have no issues with the wired, but I do have sporadic issues with the wireless that are intermittent and perplexing.
The Wireless Router is a 4-port wireless Linksys Cable modem router 802.11b. I have an issue where my wireless card on my laptop drops speeds first to 5.5, then 2Mps. Then it will basically lock up. A reboot will cure this, but it does recur. I have used every set of drivers from the newest Linksys to the Microsoft Certified Drivers both on clean installs, but this problem persists. Now I understand that this is possible just a signal issue, but as there are no obstructions, the antennae on the Router is set to diversity spread now, and there is no other reason for the drop in speed, no phones, no obstacles nothing.
I also noticed a new wireless connection is visible from a neighbors LAN. I am unsure if this relates to this in anyway.
Ideas?? Any work around?? Should I be forcing my neighbor to move?? Cause I will.

Dang - I hate to keep saying this but as of right this moment, we don't seem to have anyone on here who is good with pure 'wireless' issues. I'm a wired network guy and have no problems with them or with software but have to confess almost total wireless ignorance.
Hopefully someone will show up here and offer help but for right now my best suggestion is a wireless broadband forum.
I haven't personally examined these but all of them are specialty forums and all have currently active threads with what looked to be reasonable responses to questions.
Some of these sites I am familiar with, one is completely new, so I will check that one out first.
I agree, the wireless knowledge is out there. So may of us have a good working knowledge of networks, and can set up stable wireless LAN. But to trouble shoot you need more hands on time. I am hoping someone will have see this type of issue pop up. I know its a issue on my end, be it a tweak I used or a driver thats still in its infancy..
A solution, or the reason behind this will be found.

I just added wireless capability to my ethernet LAN (XP Pro desktop, XP Pro laptop, 98SE desktop) last week, replacing my D-Link DI-704P router with a D-Link DI-514 wired/wireless router (I wasn't using the printer port on the old router, anyway).
No problems with my IBM T40 laptop when on the port replicator (dock), attached to the ethernet LAN, but I had difficulties getting the wireless side of things to work properly when the laptop was off the PR. Each time I wanted to go online, get email, or just share files with my two desktops, I had to scan for a connection, and always found three, two of which apparently belong to neighbors. I also had the signal drop problem you describe.
After 30 minutes on the phone yesterday with a very helpful D-Link techie, I am now running an encrypted wireless link between laptop and router. I no longer have to scan for a connection, my wireless link is safe from prying eyes, and the signal drop problem has disappeared. You don't say whether you've talked to Linksys tech support but, if not, I suggest you give them a call.
It's not a matter of getting it to work, it works, I can run it WEP or WEP-free, my issue is the sporadic connectifvity, i.e. the signal strength or drop outs. I think this is driver related, but i cant hunt it down.
I am tempted to run a coffee-can extender to make the signal stronger, but if I can avoid that and get the system running as is, then that is the route I wish to go.
Are you using 2.4GHz wireless telephone systems in the home? If so, try changing the channel setting on the router (and also on the Wireless PC, to match)
