I am having a nervous breakdown with my Linksys wireless router and trying to set up aol broadband. I have windows xp on my computer that is plugged into the router and windows 98 on the wireless computer. the first problem i have is that after i set up the wireless adapter and shut the computer off for any period of time the adapter somehow removes itself from the computer. in addition to this problem once the wireless adapter is installed, i still can't get on to aol broadband. i connect via cable and the wireless computer did find the cable connection, but it can
t complete it. I get a message saying aol was unable to make a connection and to check my settings. if anyone can help in anyway i would be very grateful, i've called linksys 3 times already, but if there is anything i could do before calling them again, i'd be very appreciative.

For the 98 problem with losing track of the adapter - how about just leaving it powered up 7x24 (except the monitor)? Most of the PCs I've worked with (home and work) stay on all the time and I've not ever noticed them having a shorter lifespan than ones that are turned off when not in use.
For the connection problem, please post the complete IP configuration for router and both PCs.
How old is your Linksys router?? Which wireless router are you using??
There is a microcode upgrade listed on the web site that specifically mentions AOL (don't know if you're already at this level - if not, might be worth a try). This is for the BEFW11S4 specifically: http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=160
I have successfully set up several networks using Linksys wireless router (BEFW11S4) with Wind 98 and XP, and AOL worked fine.
