I have a 2 pc wireless network that works well. Main PC has WIN ME and Netgear MR 314 wireless router. Second computer has WIN 98 and Netgear wireless adapter MA 101. I want to add a third computer that is running WIN XP (Home) by supplying it with a wireless adapter. I also want to start file sharing. Am I in for problems? Can I add the XP pc to the network? I'm befuddled by networking terms, so much so that I spent about 10 hours researching networking before buying the Netgear gear. But it only took 15 minutes to install and setup the Netgear network! Great hardware but somewhat weak information on Netgear's web page. I'd be grateful for any ideas and suggestions. Thanks.

Oldone - easy enough to add XP into the mix. But a couple of things have to be done a little differently.
All the NT systems (NT4/2K/XP) demand to know who wants to connect so they can tell what access to grant. 9X/ME really don't care.
So XP should be easily able to use shares on the 9X systems. They are pretty open and don't have much real security.
But for any PC to use shares on an XP system, you will have to do one of two things.
1. (and something I do not recommend) is to enable the "guest" user account (done by default on XP-home but not on XP-Pro) and place it into a group with access to the shares you want to open up. Do this only if security/control is not an issue of any sort for you - which will mean running a good firewall if you have internet connection.
2. Create user accounts for each PC on the XP box (or use one username/password if you prefer) and set things up so a user must log on with the username and password to any of the PCs. Then place the user accounts into the group or groups you want and give those groups rights to whatever share(s) suit you.
With XP-Home for some odd reason, the security tab on folders is only available when you boot to safe mode. It will remain in force in normal mode but can't be seen.
