Have a laptop, Dell Lattitude, wireless access to the internet.
    OS Windows 7.
My husband was cleaning the computer and says he hit a key and has not bee unable to get online since.
I am assuming he clicked om the wireless connection key as I have no connection now,
I went to Windows Mobiiity and tried to turn my wireless connection on but that wasn't successful. I had already clicked the key on .
I then restored my system to an earlier time and that didn't work.
I have researched the manual , no help there.
I have Googled for an answer, no answer found.
Can someone please tell me how to activate my wireless
    connection?
    Thanks,
    Dee

    Hi,
Not sure if this will help but some laptops have a little switch on the front of their laptops that will show an amber light when it's in the off position and a blue light when it's in the on position...Since you mentioned your husband was cleaning it, it's not uncommon to unintentionally slide that switch over.

Thanks for replying, the laptop has a key that you click, it's at F2. I have clicked it but it has not activated the wireless connection.
This key works on the computer I'm using now, there is something I'm missing on the Lattitude.
    Thanks,
    Dee

Okay...before we get to deep, I want to make sure you are aware I'm not an expert in the field of wireless but I do have some consdierable knowledge that may be we can work on...Unfortuantely when it comes to wireless it can be tedious trying to find the culprit.

Anyways, have you tried the following:
    (1) Connecting the wireless to the router to see if you have an Internet connection using that method ?
    (2) You can either try this before or after as well...Go to start, run and type cmd in the box and when the black screen appears, type ipconfig /all. This method will hopefully show your router address (something like 192.168.0.1).

I will be away from my computer for a couple of hours...Post back your results and if no one else has been able to intervene in the mean time, I will see what else we can do around that time.

There is no IP address listed ,everything comes up 0's and disabled.
When it was connected direct to modem, it works fine.
I did some troubleshooting while it was connected and every thing comes back to no wireless connection
I don't know if I'm suppose to use another key with wireless key or not. That is where the problem is.
During the events view I saw where the problem occurred but no solutionm

Very Interesting...Can you try this...Go to start, run and type services.msc in the box. When it comes up, scroll down and you'll see everything is in alphabetical order...Not sure which one will be listed under the W's but look for WLAN or Wireless configuration...Double click on it and make sure it is set to start...If not click on the start button and after that, back out and see if you have a connection now.

    Hey Pete,

I have tried that, shift, control keys, not all together but seperately.

I now now have the wireless connection on in the Windows Mobility Center, but cannot connect.
The computer is a member of a Homegroup and this may be where my issue is now.

From the laptops manual you need to use the Fn and the F2 buttons (as PeteC had suggested) you have to hold the two buttons down at the same time.

Is there a set of small bars showing in the bottom right hand corner of the task bar. If so, right click on it and select "Troubleshoot Problems ". You can also select "Open Network and Sharing Center" which will show you the details of your connection. Tell us what you see.

I already had a wireless connection. I do not have an internet connection.
When I try to connect to the internet, the bar goes about 1/2 across and stops.
I have listed all available networks.

From my last post (I repeat) what do you see in the Network and Sharing Center.

The diagram at the top of the page shows your PC, a line across to a house, then a line across to a globe. Are there any red crosses on the lines.

Is what you are describing here the green progress bar at the bottom of a web page, if so does it also show near to it something like, Waiting for http://----. Does it just stop with a blank page or is there a message displayed like "Unable to make a connection" or similar.
