Hello. I recently installed some anti-virus software, and during the process, I lost the HTTP connectivity. HTTPS worked fine. The error was 12029.

warn HTTP: Error 12029 connecting to www.microsoft.com: A connection with the server could not be established
error Could not make an HTTP connection.

This is the case with both IE and Firefox. Messenger works fine. Outlook works as well.

I had tried numerous ways to fix the issue, including resetting TCP/IP protocol, winsock, and fixing LSP etc. None worked.

The result from ComboFix.exe showed that following files had been modified. Is there a way to fix this issue without re-installing XP? I don't have the restore point to go back to the scenario when things worked - the old restore points were destroyed as a result of installing, deinstalling and reinstalling SP3 to fix the connectivity issue.

Go to IE's Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab, click the LAN Settings button & make sure nothing is checked there.

There is no LAN setting change.

If someone could go through the list of files changed below to find the culprit, maybe the issue could be fixed. I suspected that some dll was damaged below.

I tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not fix anything.

My http works in safe mode. I disabled services and startup programs, but that did not fix it either.

I was installing Trend Micro, SpyDoctor, SpyHunter and Lava when suddenly the update for Lava failed and then TrendMicro's console failed to connect to the trendmicro homepage. I removed those anti-virus software, to no vain. Seems to me I had exhausted all means other than a re-install of Xp.

Sorry, I have no other suggestions. I would be carefully installing all kind of "security software" at once. Install one at a time, reboot (even if not prompted) & see if your PC still works as expected.
