How to change IP address with Cox

Hey. Im running Cox High Speed Internet, and Im looking for a good way to change my IP. I have a Linksys Router. Earlier today, I turned the router then Modem off for about 3 minutes. I turned them back on, restarted my computer, but my IP Did not change.

Does anyone know how to change your IP with Cox? If so, help me out.

P.S We never requested a Static IP, so it should be dynamic.
Ive tried ipconfg, ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew. It renews the same IP. Do I need to somehow do that in conjunction with turning off the Router, or wait after I do /release longer...

Just to clarify. I want to change the IP that websites read when I go to a website (I believe its called WAN?). For instance, if you can only visit a page once every 24 hours, but it records your IP, I want to change it so that my IP reads differently.

With a DOCSIS modem such as you have, the on/off feature on the back of the modem acts just about as your instant-on TV does.

Unplug for at least twenty minutes. It might require more time. But using the on/off switch will not give you any change in IP.

My System
I've been using cox since 1999-2000. Cox uses dynamic ips that change about every 6-8 months on average. My new ip is new because I moved to a different house, thus my existing cox account was frozen-cancled and a new account was setup. Prior to moving I had the same ip for a year & a half! I've no complaints about that because I have a linux server w/ a few domains on it in my home office.

I recently assisted someone here who wanted to change his ip often or at will. The point I made is that there is no danger-threat-risk-insecurity-etc in having the same ip for extended periods of time. Read this thread:
