    Hello

I have a computer that has a 20 gig hard drive and I keep running out of room. I have found out why. In windows there is a directory c:\windows\csc and that stupid directory is over 12 gig. How can I clean that up. I know windows xp ussually takes up about 2 gig. When i did a right click on windows and properties it came back as 18 gig.

    Thanks
    Dan :)

Thanks for the help. I really like your forum. very usefull. I hate windows but I have to use it.

Hello Dan and welcome to the Board :)

CSC stands for client-side caching and is another term for offline file sharing. You seem to be in a network environment and the other systems are caching files on your system.

An explanation http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/c06621675.mspx Start reading with Using Offline Files

Once you access the options, the article does say it can be disabled. I don't know if disabling this will empty the file or not.

I'm moving this thread to the Networking section - this is a networking issue.

    Regards - Charles

    c:\windows\csc

    Hello

Yes this is in a network. server is server 2003. I currently have 2 computers that have over 12 gig used. The desktop that I use is just over 5 gig. But it looks like the client side cache was the problem. I now have 5 + gig and growing free on both of those computers. shift+control and delete files worked. just a slow process.

    Thanks
    Charles :)

Did you read this section of the page charlesvar's link referred to? In particular the line "Do not directly delete or move any files from the systemroot\CSC folder. " I'm a little concerned that either the problem will reoccur or you may have broken something that will only become apparent at a later date.

    followed the instructions

    Hello

Yes I followed the instructions. I think this problem could have all started when our exchange server crashed. all I had to do was restart the cache as listed in the document.

    Thanks

Good - I'm glad the problem is sorted.
