On my computer I have 2 internet connections (both broadband/adsl). One is via a router which is shared by another computer and the other is on this computers own ADSL modem which is connected to a different internet connection on a different phone line. Usually I just have the second internet connection connected because its faster and it means the other PC doesn't have to share but I also use the router for networking and printer sharing. Is it possible to have both connections plugged in but to tell windows to use the router just to network with the other computer and to use this computers internet connection to connect to the internet because atm if I connect this to the computer it networks with the other PC but also uses the slower ADSL connection.

If you do not set a default gateway on the internal NIC, it won't be used to connect the PC to the internet (basically it will not know that there is a route out to the internet that way). Assign the IP address manually on your network card, and leave the gateway blank. The computer will then work the way you want.
