Hello, I just am trying to transfer a fairly large file from my desktop to my laptop. Is there any way I can connect the two and send the file directly from computer to computer? I thought I had a USB to USB cable around here somewhere but all I can manage to find is ethernet cable.

Can someone walk me through how to do this?

If all you have is a normal network cable, you cannot do what you are trying to do. To connect to another PC directly, you need a cross over network cable.

Standard network cables are straight through. They are designed to work with a hub or switch (which effectively performs the crossover function).

You need a cross-over cable or a hub/switch and another standard network cable.
