You know the message - in the bottom corner "You Are Now Working Offline" - it keeps appearing and the laptop goes offline - and off the network for no apparent reason.

Is it worth disabling Offline files? at the moment i'm trying the laptop (which is having the problem) in a different network point.

    Nope. Would have no effect.

If you are on a wired or wireless network, you are dealing probably with a bad hub/switch port, a bad network card, or else a very strange and rare software issue. My money is on hardware and changing the port it plugs into is a great thing to try first.

If that doesn't fix things, describe the hardware and the network a little. And I'm moving this to the networking section since I thing that's where the problem lies.

tried 4 other computers in the same network point - no problems whatsoever the others all work fine.

i've disabled Offline Files and that has worked. The only problem now is that the user can't work on a document at the office and then go home in offline mode and carry on.

    Please describe your network.

    - Domain or workgroup
    - One flat network or routed
    - Operating systems in use
    - Wired, wireless, some combo
    - etc.

Are there any significant entries in the system or applications event logs on problem system?

And the results of ipconfig /all when the system is showing as off line would be helpful.
