I have a new HP win7 64bit computer. I attached my HP 1320 printer to it and it found a 64 bit driver. I now can't access the printer from my xp local network computers. I tried opening a local port so it could use the existing xp software but it only prints blank pages.
I checked "print from last page" on both server and local printer.

Does anyone have a way to either add the 32 bit driver to the win 7 64bit computer (it refuses to load it) or a way to make the local port printer work?

I have spent all weekend on this. I sure would appreciate help on this.

I also loaded the 64 bit driver onto the xp and added the ntprint.ini file to the folder, as I think the drivers have to have the same name. Still I get a message that it can't find the driver. Where do I put the ntprint.ini file so that win 64 can find it and install it? Perhaps I should rename the old driver to have the same name as the 64 bit driver? Should I try that? Phew!!!!!

Did the printer come with an installation disk. If so did you try using the disk in the WXP sp3 computer.

The printer was originally working on the xp printer. It was only after it was installed on the win7 printer that it wouldn't let the xp printer with the proper printer driver installed, operate. It seems that the win7 computer needs the ntprint.ini file but I can't seem to get the win7 printer to recognize it or lead it to the file. Very frustrating.

I just recently did the same for a Canon MP510 which is attached to a Win7 x64. Old laptop on the network running XP. This is what I did:

    1. Downloaded and installed the Windows XP driver (on the laptop)
    2. Started the Add Printer wizard
    3. Choose A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer
    4. Select Connect to this printer (or to browse....)
    5. In the Name box enter \\{ip address of the computer that has the printer attached}\{Printer name}
    6. Click Next & that's all.

All of the above steps seem to be ok. The network is ok. the sharing is ok. So I think the problem is that windows 7 has created a printer driver to enable the HP 1320 to work with win 7, but since it is a new name, and that driver doesn't exist for an xp format, I am back to trying to make the printer work through a port. I have the printer installed on the xp, but when I try to print with it, it reaches the win7 desktop, but is stopped by a spooling problem. And then a message appears on the xp computer that says it is a sub spooling problem. I found one fix that said to change the advanced option to print from the last page. I did that on both printer drivers, but still can't make it work. It stays hung up in the win7 printer jobs with the message that it is spooling.

 Windows 7 uses a Windows 7 driver and has no need for anything else.

I don't understand what 1 has to do with the other. Again, follow what I have done. I did nothing to the Win 7 system. All I did was on the XP system.

The printer is attached via USB on the Win7 system.

Arie, I have done what you have done a million times. It doesn't work with the HP 1320 printer. When I choose the printer it says it doesn't have the correct driver. So I point to the correct driver on the xp, and it says it needs a trprint.ini file. When I point to that file on the xp, it says it's not the correct driver. I really think it's a specific problem with this printer which others have found as well. So I tried to work around it by using a local printer port which allows the xp to use it's own software, and others have found that it works, but it won't spool properly.
I have a laserjet P2055dn which works just fine on this computer network. So I guess it's just not going to work with the HP 1320, because I can't seem to find an answer. The sharing is fine, this particular printer worked fine through the network when it was hooked up to an xp computer. It's the new driver that doesn't have the needed ntprint.ini file to allow the xp computer to print. Oh, well.

Go to the hp site and try the Universal printer driver for that model.
When selecting the model in the hp driver search, select the specific model you have, either the 1320 or the 1320n.

I have just downloaded it. Should I use it for both or just the xp? It's the same name as the win7 printer exactly except it's the universal driver. So I thought I would load it on the xp. Unfortunately, the user has taken it into NY for two days. Thanks

Post Script: I tried the HP 1320 PCL 5 Universal driver on the xp. Chose the xp driver when asked to find a driver. Got a new .inf message: " hpb41035l.ini not found ".

    Any thoughts?
