I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, so my apologies if not. My laptop hass suddenly decided to die on me. It now says Pleae Install Operating System. Hard Disk Does Not Exist/No Hard Disk! etc. Question is. Just WHAT has happened & is it going to cost me an arm & a leg to rpeair or should I just forget it? My HP laptop is only 14 months old as well. Any & all help greately appreciated.
    Thank you.

Sounds like the HD has died. When you boot up, to you see a F key to get into the bios or boot order? Have you tried to get into Safe Mode with Networking. Usually by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as soon as you turn the PC on.

I agree, sounds like there may be a serious problem with the hard drive. Since laptops usually get moved around, jostled and sometimes bumped pretty hard, the hard drives tend to not last as long as they would in a desktop PC.

Thank you. I have tried all the F2, F8, F10, F11 etc keys. All the BIOS diagnostics etc. End of it all stlll getting same message. Boot Device Not Found, Pleasse Install an operating system on your hard disk. Think I will have to take it to the computer shop to be fixed. Thanks anyway.

Do you have the OS disks that came with it or did you make them when you got it. Just replace the HD yourself and reinstall Windows. Way cheaper than a shop would do. You can probably pick up a HD for under 100 bucks from e-bay. I get them there all the time.

Hi. There were no disks that needed to be installed when I bought the laptop (HP Pav G6) as it was just a matter of switch it on & it was all automaticlly installed, so unfortunately I don't have any to reinstall windows. By the way I am in the UK if thats any help. Thanks.

Most PC's (desktop or laptop) in the last 3 or so years would notify you to make a backup when you turned it on and tell you how many CD's or DVD's were needed if they didn't come with the CD's from the factory. E-mail HP and tell them what happened and they will probably sell and send you what you need for a few bucks.

Thank you. Unfortunately (& I know stupidly) I did not create any back up disks as I should have done, very amiss of me I know. If new OS wont be a problem ,to just load a new OS into the disk drive then I will see what I can arrange. I will do as you suggest as well.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Hi RichieJo500. Adding to what was said above, the harddrive has most likely died you will need to get it replaced and perform a clean install of Windows with a retail or OEM disk. Since you have an HP laptop, HP is obligated to provide you with reinstall disks since the harddrive is no longer being detected.

Have you tried opening up the laptop and reseating the harddrive? There is a small panel that provides easy access to the harddrive on the bottom of the laptop. See if that helps.
