Outlook express language

Hi, My outlook express spell check drop down box only gives the option of French yet all my windows XP and explorer settings seem to be set to English (Aust) which is correct. Any ideas on how to change the spell check to English? It was only installed in the last couple of months so I assume it is the latest version.

What spell check are you using? OE doesn't have a built in Spell Checker. There are several that will work with it.

Did you recently install Office 2007? If so, spell check in OE has been disabled and you'll have to find another solution like many of the free on line spell checkers.

My System

Has been posted a few times before here...

As I have said previously:

Microsoft are real bone-heads (to put it mildly) when it comes to supporting their mail clients.

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system

Quote:
There are a variety of third-party free spell-checking programs available on the Internet.
Instead they get out from their ivory tower & fix what they broke

Thanks for your help. I did just install Office home and student 2007. How stupid are the guys at microsoft to not fix a simple thing like this. I will try a 3rd party spellchecker.

I asked a guy at MS about this...His reply:

Quote:
Since, in reality, OE never really had a spell-checker, he should be been thinking that the spell-check “feature” was a bonus, not a core feature of OE. That said OE still has the capability to host spell checkers as noted in the article. If we didn’t work to improve and enhance the Office 2007 spell checker, then Office users would have been bashing us for not being forward thinking enough.

Steve, that is a stupid reply!

Again, they broke it & refuse to fix it. They should have made a patch for OE so it could use the new spell checker, but instead they abandoned OE. Vista's mail client was 'supported' all of about 6 months before 'they' decided to drop it and go with Windows Life Mail instead.

If you want a FREE email client I suggest you do not use a Microsoft product, you'll never know when they decide to drop support for it.

Thanks,

I have downloaded a third party spell checker and all is now OK although if Office disables the spell check I still do not understand why there was still a French only version of spellcheck available on OE6.
