Instant change from one-email to next

I am using WinXP SP2 with IE7 and Outlook Express.
In my in-box I may have 10 to 20 messages.
I double-click on a message to open it. I put cursor on a line in message, and immediately I am in previous message. I close message I was on, and have to retreat to the previous message (and start at beginning of this message.
Also, if I want to highlite an item in a message, it immediately puts me in previous message.
Why are the messages so "volatile"?
Is there a setting either in OE or in my Logitech mouse to prevent this??
Thanks in advance.

My System

Strange behaviour - I smell possible corruption of the Inbox ......

If you create a new folder, say Inboxtemp and drag the files from Inbox into it does the same thing happen?

If it does not close OE, search for *.dbx - include hidden files & folders - and delete Inbox.dbx. It will be recreated when OE is next opened. You may then drag the files back from Inboxtemp and delete the folder.

Check the sizes of the .dbx files - the max size is theoretically 2 Gb, but OE plays strange long before then.

I would be surprised if it is a mouse issue, but if you have a spare mouse around easy enough to check.
