cannot open file

When I attempt to open a WMV attachment in OE I get this message.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
When I save this to my H/D C: I can open it no problem???????

This WMV file does have an asociation to open it and works OK when I have saved it to my H/D C: as above.

I have also gone into Choose Program and ticked the selection to always use this program VLC to open...however it does not remain ticked after the program is played.

VLC is the media player I use and I have no issues with that.

My question is WHY?? can't I open the file from OE.

Thank you
masaloi

I guess OE does not natively link well to VLC.
See this guide:
How to Play Videos in Outlook Express with VLC Player

Thanks TonyT,

I will hang in a bit before tampering with the registry and see if I have any other file issues relating to VLC 'cause from that info it would indicate registry changes could be an ongoing procedure.
