clicking url links in Outlook 2003 wont open IE

Clicking a legit url link in a message in Outlook 2003 wont open IE, it opens a search window looking for a .exe file type.

What setting is wrong?

Thanks

No it's not a virus...

Look in Tools->Options for the setting to use MS Word as the editor. Unchecl both boxes.

It isn't a virus, the computer scans clean.

Word as editor doesn't change the behavior. I also have another machine that opens links properly and "use MS Word to edit e-mail messages" is checked on it.

Thanks

Overall - it's probably a file association issue...
Win Explorer->Tools->Folder Options->File Type tab

Does the same search box come up if you open a folder in Win Explorer? If so, the fix for that is:

Go to Start >Run and type:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Which extension would it be if it is only the link in Outlook message that is giving me a hard time? In looking I think it might be HTML document but not sure
I don't know how such an association might have been changed in the first place though
