Outlook 2000 crashes

When I run Outlook I now get the following notification after 2 to 12 minutes and it appears unrelated to what I'm doing at the time. It also dies when I just bring it up and leave it alone. The error message I get is:

OUTLOOK.exe has generated erros and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.

This behavior started a few days ago and I can't remember doing anything special at the time, e.g. install updates, bug fixes, etc. I've been using an IBM laptop (600E) in this configuration for years.

I'm running Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4, Outlook 9.0.0.2711 set to "Internet Mail Only." There is 2.26 GB disk space available. I have been unable to find the "error log."

Stunned.

I'm running W2k version 5.00.2195 SP4, Outlook 9.0.0.2711 set to "Internet Mail Only." I have about 2.26 GB disk space available.

I have been able to find "user.dmp" in the meantime, however, I don't know which program would read the binary file.

Try here: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name \Local Settings\Temp\OPMlog.log

OPMlog.log does not exist on my system (I did a search after the temp directory turned up not having it).

That's the Initial release

You might want to get at least the latest updates for that one:

Quote:
9.0.0.3011 - Outlook 2000 E-mail Attachment Security Update.
9.0.0.3821 - Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) (or SR-1a)
9.0.0.4105 - Outlook 2000 E-mail Security Update (BETA)
9.0.0.4201 - Outlook 2000 E-mail Security Update (Final)
9.0.0.4527 - Microsoft Office 2000 SP-2
9.0.0.5414 - Outlook E-mail Security Update re-released on August 16, 2001

I looked at the OL2000 link--seems to have done the trick (/safe option). I now have to investigate whether OutlookSync, Net Folders, or Symantec Fax Starter Edition Extension is at fault for crashing Outlook.

I'll also make an effort to install the 6 missing updates (I do the Microsoft automatic update quite regularly--apparently Outlook is not one of the ones serviced). However, I do remember installing at least some of those. Another mystery to solve, I guess.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted about the progress.

Less stunned.

For Office products, use the Office Update Web site.

I know, confusing... it will be fixed soon, when Microsoft introduces a new update service called Microsoft Update. This will integrate Windows Updates with other Microsoft product updates, so there would be only a "one stop shop"
