Running WinXP SP3 on Toshiba Laptop.

This problem just started earlier today. I use MS Outlook as my default email program. When I want to send a webpage via email I click FILE>Send Link by email and Outlook opens an email window to send the link. I click send and the email window closes. Normally I click MS Outlook from my quick start menu and it opens allowing me to send the email I just created. Lately when I click MS Outlook from the quick start menu to send the email (by clicking Send and Receive) and error comes up saying program failed and MS Outlook does NOT open. I checked Task Manager and see that Outlook.exe is running when it should have closed after I closed the email window. I have to close outlook.exe from the task manager to restart the program. Any idea how I can fix this?

P.S I have been doing it this way for years with NO problem.

Several things to check in no particular order.

Problem usually because of a 3rd party add-on – especially Google - or a corrupt user profile.

Can check by going to control panel – mail – create a new profile and see if Outlook closes OK .

Check your pst file for errors by searching for the program Scanpst.exe and run it.
    It’s probably in C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Office\Office12.

Start getting rid of Outlook add-ons.

This step should send the mail...There should be no need to open Outlook.

What do you find when you open Outlook? Is the mail sitting in the draft folder? Or is it maybe already in the sent folder?

It's usually sitting in the outbox waiting to be sent. I have it set up this way because rather than send an email immediately after hitting the send button, I may have several different emails to send and rather than sending them one at a time I let them sit in the outbox until I'm ready to send them all.

BTW "“ Open up: Control Panel "“ Administrative Tools "“ Event Viewer.
    Click on Applications.
You should see an error: OfficeLifeBoatHang (someone at MS had a sense of humor).

Have you added any spam e-email programs?

    instructions on disabling them.

In my case it was QuickBooks.

I did the Scanpst.exe searching for outlook.exe and it said the file cannot be found. I then did the MS Office Repair and it completed as successful but that still did not fix the problem.

I still have my MS Office 2003 CD. I don't remember if it will allow you to only install MS Office Outlook will it?

I did a system restore back to this past Sunday which cleared up the problem however it presented a scarier problem. When I boot up I get an error message with the dreaded white X in a red circle which states, "HEADER...Failed to locate application resources ". It happens each time I restarted the computer.

I did another systems restore back to today and that cleared up the Header error message but I'm right back where I started with MS Office Outlook.

I think, but not sure, that the Scanpst.exe procedure finally allowed me to get back my system restore. I did a restore back a couple of days and that solved ALL the problems.
    Thanks for all the input.
