Mail/Contacts from Vista Windows Mail to Outlook 2007

I read a suggestion somewhere (On the Net) one way to get from XP Outlook Express (Mail and Contacts) to Vista Outlook 2007 was to Import your XP Exports to Vista Windows Mail first, and then go to Outlook 2007 from Windows Mail in Vista. I was successful in migrating both mail and contacts from XP Outlook Express to Vista Windows Mail. Try as I might (So Far) I have not been able to go from Windows mail to Outlook 2007 in Vista. Does anyone out there know how to do that?

 

How to Migrate Windows XP Outlook Express to Vista Outlook 2007

Yesterday, I posted a question regarding migrating mail messages and contacts from Windows Vista to Outlook 2007. Yesterday afternoon, I was able to do that, and thought I would pass on my experience for those of you who may find yourselves in the same situation. The original situation was to move from a laptop running Windows XP and Outlook Express to a laptop running Windows Vista and Outlook 2007.

The advice I found while looking through various web postings was from vista4beginners.com. I couldn't find the exact situation I described above, but the closest thing to it was to backup your Outlook Express e-mail, install Windows Vista, migrate everything to Windows Mail, and then import it to Outlook 2007.

Exporting mail and address book from Outlook Express in Windows XP is pretty much a routine export from Outlook Express. The next thing to do is copy the backup files to a memory stick or CD and put them on the Windows Vista machine's desktop. From there importing them to Windows Mail in Vista is a pretty much straight forward import process for Windows Mail. The next step is to export your mail and contacts from Windows Mail in Vista. Be careful not to import or export mail settings, if you are already set up on Vista Outlook 2007.

Actually, the next step is also pretty straight forward. It's just a matter of choosing the right option for importing to Outlook 2007. It's actually all laid out in the vista4beginners.com article. The catch is when you choose "Import Internet Mail and addresses" you then get the window that asks what to import from. The correct selection is "Outlook Express4.x........,
or Windows Mail ". It's easy to overlook the Windows Mail part at the end and think it's just for Outlook Express.

When you're finished with this final step, you will have a folder in your Outlook 2007 that is titled "Imported Mail ". Unfortunately it's located before the Inbox, Sent items, etc., which puts them down at the bottom of what could be a very long list of folders. This is not a big problem because you can drag the Inbox and whatever else you want to work with on a regular basis up to Outlook's favorite folders at the top. I hope this helps someone.

 

I'm getting closer

I successfully set up Windows Mail for myself over 6 months ago. I have several email accounts (this is not where the problem is) that each have a title, and then a series of folders underneath - Inbox, Sent, Saved, Spam, Voicemail. In subfolders under each account's "Saved" folder, I have sorted a number of emails that I wanted to group and save.
I successfully imported one (as a test - I'll do the rest when I know I've got this down) email account (and its settings) into Outlook 2007, but it did NOT create the Saved folder or any of its subfolders. How do I make it do this?
