I think it's OE version 6. It came with Win XP home edition. Installation date was october 2006. My computer is up to date wrt Microsoft updates. I ran Adaware SE, and Regseeker 1.52 and now OE won't come up. Here are the two messages I get:
"Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to initialize the global options manager. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance.(0x80004005)"
When I click ok, the second message states " Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.dll could not be initialized. OE may not be installed correctly. "
I undid the latest Clean the registry run under Regseeker with no help. I have been using Regseeker for at least a year now, and was pretty confident that it was benign, as it never gave me the slightest bit of trouble.
This is a Dell Inspiron E1505 with 1 gig of ram and a 73 gig HD of which only 14 gigs is used. I believe it is an 80 gig HD with a 7gig restore partition.
    Any ideas?

Hey, thanks for the tip. Bad news:I couldn't find a separate entry for address book under win xp. I suspect there was one under Win Me to which the article referred. So I just reinstalled all of Outlook Express. This resulted in no change in the symptoms. Good news: System restore fixed it, I think. Outlook express is back. This is the first time I ever used system restore. If it changed anything elsewhere, I haven't looked yet. It chose Sept 26, since that was evidently the date on which I installed iTunes. If there are any consequences to a restore to a date 11 days ago, I'll discover them soon, I'm sure. If not, so much the better.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.
