Trying to open Windows Live Mail and am getting an 0x80041161 error.

Running Win7 64bit - lots of HDD space and tons of memory

Tried repairing WLM - no joy. Haven't been able to find a solution searching through google.

    Any suggestions appreciated
    Thanks

How did you try to repair?

Windows Live includes a repair utility. It is located in \Program Files\Windows Live\Installer and is called wlarp. Launch that program & choose Repair all Windows Live programs.

Do you have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed?

What would you recommend first, System Restore or the Complete uninstall method?

I would go with the uninstall > reinstall.

A system restore might work, but next time you get a Windows Update you may end up at the same point...

uninstall > reinstall results in the same 0x error but with a twist.

It now says that the App was unable to initialize the Windows Live Contacts.

Started to attempt System Restore but the oldest restore point is yesterday when I started the process of trying to repair the problem

    Any thoughts?

In editing the registry as in the article
I deleted the "Live Mail" key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ (LOCAL MACHINE key didn't exist) but didn't touch the "Windows Mail ", "Windows Live ", "Windows Live Contacts" keys.

    Any thoughts here?

    As the article states:

I guess it is time for a 'decent' email client :)

Thanks, but in the end I ended up creating a new user on the computer and WLM opened without a problem. I then copied all files over to the new user and it works.

The old user must have somehow been corrupt although this was the only glitch that has ever been encountered
