I'd like to get a more comprehensive look at things. Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
Disable any script blocking protection
Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.
Please include the contents of both logs in your next reply. The scan will instruct you to post the attach log as an attachment. No need for that though ..... just post it as you would any other log.
this is ATTACH log. my net speed too is so slow that it took me a long time to just post these 2 log files.
UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED, DO NOT POST THIS LOG.
IF REQUESTED, ZIP IT UP & ATTACH IT

First thing to do is Click Start>Run and type msconfig then hit Enter to open the System Configuration Utility.
Select the Startup tab, then uncheck every item in the list.
Click OK and allow the computer to restart.
If bootup and logon are normal, return to msconfig and check one item, ok and restart.
Repeat as necessary to pinpoint the offending application.
ok will try it but please keep the thread active as i have my exams starting from 5th so will return to u after one wk that is by 9th. thank u
and also
1. by normal boot and logon u mean that time taken for boot is less?
2. if some programme like winamp or blue soliel blue tooth adapter prog is the offending prog does it need uninstalling? or just unchecking it from start up will suffice?
3. when unchecked will the prog run normally when i require to run the prog?
This topic will remain open for 30 days, so no hurry.
By normal boot I mean what we hope to achieve is a normal time to load the operating system ....... something closer to 2 minutes or less.
Whatever the offending program turns out to be, if it is indeed a program, might require uninstalling/re-installing, or might require an updated version. Causes and fixes may vary.
Any of the programs can be run normally from their start menu entry. The fact that they are set to startup at logon simply means they're already loaded once you logon.
thank u. i tried as u said. there are 27 start up entries. i checked one by one, initially boot time( up to opening of desktop screen and mozilla folder) was 1.3 min by the end when all items where check marked it was 3min. i didnt find as such problematic prog. later in the general tab of msconfig when normal boot was selected instead of selective boot option the boot time was 5 min. that previous 3 min time what i told was after loading nero.
and also while i was doing this at one point there was that blue screen error. and at no time was there clear difference in boot time between 2 successive entries. each varied by some 30 sec or so.
Please see wildfire's instructions here for creating a BootlogXP.
Email the log to me at this address as an attachment and post here once you've done that.
hello here is the sequence of events which i have done after u directed me to that post.
1. my comp is pentium 4 xp 2002 service pack 2 2.66ghz 248mb ram.
c drive is NTFS system with 8.18 GB free of 18.63GB
D drive is FAT32 with 12.57 GB free of 27.93 GB
E drive is FAT32 with 25.82GB free of 27.93 GB
i also have a dvd ram drive.
2. in task manager i saw the cpu usage ranging between 2% to 8%
page file usage 429 mb. physical memory is 253424. available is 72148 and system cache 77596
3. months back i had mcaffee but later uninstalled it through add/remove prog. few days back when i saw program files in C drive some of the elements had not gone so i manually deleted some using spybot file shredder. and also deleted registry entries going to start->run-> regedit . and finally using ccleaner cleared all issues.
seeing in the post by wildfire i downloaded mcaffee removal tool and used it to clean up.
4 also following wildfire post itself have done check disk operation too. but not defragmentation.
5 finally i ran boot log xp and have mailed u the log.
no better noahdfear. still is slow so i have mailed u new bootlog . repeatedly i gat either blue screen error or generic host win32 error. seriously fed up with my comp
