My System

Update Norton & run a thorough scan.

Download & install Spybot from www.safer-networking.org . Update & run it.

Download & install Adaware from www.lavasoft.com . Update & run it.

That should throw up almost anything.

Hi idontknowpcs,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The infostealer.gamepass infection may have infected files in your system restore directory, and it may have added entries to the registry. Please follow the instructions in the following document to properly scan for and remove any remnants of the infection.

Infostealer.gamepass removal instructions

Thank you,
Mike

My System

Mike,

Thank you for your input, but I and many many others feel it is important to first make sure the system is clean and working properly prior to removing the System Restore points. Better to have an infected Restore Point (possibly more than one) than none at all. I think Symantec would do well to update their mindset on System Restore, and therefore their tutorials as well.

idontknowpcs,

We need to have a look at things.
  • Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click RSIT.exe to start the tool and click Continue at the disclaimer.
  • When the scan completes it will open a log named log.txt maximized, and a log named info.txt minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both logs here in your next reply.
