Greetings - My Dell laptop seems to have been hijacked. I ran a McAfee scan which did not fix the problem. The symptoms are:
1) "Block popups" box keeps "unchecking" itself in Firefox and IE.
2) Popup of "Antivirus 2009" plus many other popups
3) The sound is extremely loud when clicking to close some popups
4) Some websites cannot be accessed such as hotmail.com...just hangs in hourglass
I thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) from here or here and save the file to your desktop.
Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select 'Perform Quick Scan', then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note below)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Post the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
Then, download ComboFix by sUBs from here, saving the file to your desktop.
Please disable realtime protection applications as they sometimes interfere with the tool. Check this link for your applicable programs.
Close all open programs and windows
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
It may reboot your computer and resume running when you logon. Wait for it to complete. When finished, it will open a log for you. Post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
You are a life saver! Thanks a million. The MBAM seems to have fixed it, but I would like to follow all of your instructions. I tried to disable McAfee and there is no option for "exit" when I right-click the icon. I feel dumb but I cannot figure out how to temporarily disable McAfee. Just let me know if you think I should definitely run ComboFix.
The MBAM log is as follows...
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.25
Database version: 1062
Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
