Windows XP SP2 Home Lagging after few hours of using.
Hi there,
I am new in this forum. If there is something which not correct, please accept my apologies.
I have Windows XP SP2. CPU is Intel Celeron 2.53GHz and RAM is 512MB 400MHz. After few hours of operating even in idling mode, and when I want to access any programs, for example Media Player Classic or P2P uTorrent or even Firefox etc, it will lagging and sometimes not responding for few seconds. The CPU performance is in 100% or not lower than 70%. I have use the HijackThis and below is the result of the scanning.
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 7:18:46 PM, on 7/21/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16640)
Boot mode: Normal
First thing to do is shut down your computer, open the case and using compressed air (you can purchase it canned if necessary), blow any dust out of the fans (don't allow the fans to spin), the cpu heatsink, air flow vents, etc. With the case open, start the computer and visually verify that all fans are working.
Next, do some general housecleaning. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
Recycle bin
The rest are optional - if you want it to remove everything check "Select All".
Finally, click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, select the Firefox option in the menu and clean it up too.
Reboot
If no change, identify what process(es) is consuming the cpu and let us know it's name.
