Hi,
I am not skilled at security. If I am looking for a reason for the system not working correctly and suspect malware, I investigate suspicious looking HJT listings myself.

You can disregard any listing that are in a folder like "Sony", "Toshiba", etc. What I notice though, is all the background programs running. 04 listings are programs run at startup, 023 listings are run as services. I don't "remove" anything unless I know what it is and what it does. All those "helper" programs/services, I would sharpen my axe for those. It is not fair that software you install runs all that JUNK in the background.

If nobody can spot malware, open msconfig (Start -> Run) and disable startup programs that you do not absolutely need (you can usually run them from All Programs or from within the main program, eg. updaters).

Media Center on a laptop? Maybe a little mismatch from my opinion.

well sort of yes. it was just a checkup. i have a toshiba satellite laptop and it is excrusiatingly slow at startup and has loads of programs (80 processes at startup) which i really don't want and need but are toshiba propriety so difficult to remove

The best way to handle this - Go to Google and search the name of ANY startup program as listed by name and you will find out what it is and whether or not it is recommended to disable it. Double and triple check each program you find, better safe then sorry.
Here is another great site to check as well: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Make sure you use caution, if not at all sure, then don't disable it at start up.
