Help with search engine redirect, a follow up
Hello everybody, I have a problem that is identical to the one mentioned in this thread from this forum.
Help with google redirect / possible spyware
On page two there is a solution, to use Killbox to delete a file. I downloaded Killbox and tried to delete the file that was listed but I get an error. I am able to click "yes" at the reboot prompt but no "pending operations" prompt occurs. Instead I get an error message that says "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!"
I have run Spybot and Adaware as well as Hijack This and I am fairly sure that my problem is the same as the one experienced by the OP from the thread I linked. If there is any help you can give me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi tycon
I am sure one of us here can help you out, But we will need to see the HJT log.
Double-click the HijackThis! SetUp icon to begin the installation. Follow the prompts for the default install location of:'C:\Program Files\HijackThis' . Tick the 'Create a desktop' button when the option appears. Select next, then allow HijackThis! to start.
Copy and paste the log into this thread.

Hi tycon
If you Know who jsmartin is Then do not check the jsmartin entries in HJT .
Please re-open HiJackThis and do a scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.2 85.255.112.6
Now close all windows other than HiJackThis , then click Fix Checked.
Close HJT .
Please reboot your computer and post a new HJT log.
Let me know if you are still being redirected after fixing these entries with HJT .

Hi tycon
OK, Lets do a little more seaching to see which one is bugging you.
Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
Click "Next"
When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
Click "Finish"
A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix
Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.

Hi
Well that didn't show me anything You can delete that tool.
Lets look a little further,
1. Download ComboFix.exe using either of these links:
BleepingComputer
Techsupportforum.com
2. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts to allow the tool to run.
3. When it has finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log & a fresh HJT log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

I'm having the same problem. My search engine results are being redirected. I downloaded "Hijackthis" but I'm not sure how to effectively get rid of this bug...

Hi halbower
Welcome to windowsbbs.
Please start a new thread of your own here in spyware and virus removal.
Make sure that HJT is in a permanent folder, not a temp folder or on your desktop. (By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis. )
Scan and save log and post it into your new thread.
Do not make any modifications to the log or perform any 'fixes' until told to do so.
Some one will look it over and help you out.

Hi dl9
Welcome to windowsbbs.
Please post your problem in the "Hardware" forms.
Here is a link if you want to follow it, or go back to the main page and click on "Hardware".

I'm back again, I apologise for the delay, suffice to say things became busy
I tried downloading Combofix and running it, but when I ran the program I recieved a message stating
Quote:
The tool, ComboFix has been temporarily withdrawn.
The author discovered a rootkit infection that will intefere with ComboFix's running.
This will cause Combofix to be UNSAFE FOR USE on your machine.
Even if you manage to find a mirror for the tool, PLEASE DO NOT RUN THIS TOOL
Apologies for any inconvenience caused
That doesn't sound good at all, what to do?
