    I have an Emachine T1100 running Windows 98. Went to upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition. Half way through the installation a window came up stating my bios was not fully ACPI compatible. It said I could delete it by pressing F7 at the emachine start up logo. Rebooted and at the logo pressed F7 numerous times. The only window that came up was press enter to continue, press F3 to quit and press F10 to start a new installation. Pressed enter and at the logo screen pressed F7 again. Still no luck. Does anyone know how to get to the text mode or get into the bios so I can disable the ACPI?

    My specs are below in case you need them.

    Curtis, Welcome to WindowsBBS :D

    If I recall correctlyt F7 is used to install additional drivers during the installation of windows (ie you may need to contact Emachine's and ask for support).

    However, looking at your system specifications I certainly wouldn't recommend installing XP on that system. Your memory is low and your HD is small. If you do manage to install XP it will crawl. Seriously IMO don't do it.

    Thank you for your suggestion but that is exactly the problem I am having. My Emachine T1100 is set up to boot from the cd first then A drive and finally the hard drive. I put my original Windows XP Home Edition disk in the CD drive and rebooted my system. When it started the install I did press F7 numerous times. A screen came up stating to continue press enter, to exit press F3 and to change to a different OS press F10. I pressed enter and again started pressing F7. The only screen that came up was a screen telling me that my bios was not fully ACPI compatible. What am I doing Wrong?

    I'm sorry I forgot to mention I added memory and now have 512mb of memory. Yes the drive is small and I plan on getting a new one at least 80. Just wanted to get windows XP home edition on this one. I tried the F7 button to no avail unless I'm doing something wrong. In this case I'm a total n0ovice and would need step by step instructions if it would not be to much of a bother.

    I thought F6 was to install 3rd party drivers. If I am wrong then I learned something today and I thank you.

    You only need to press F7 once. You should set your boot order to CD/Rom first then the Hard drive.

    @lj50

    F6 is used to install 3rd. party drivers, not F7.

    I thought so. I always opt for a clean install. Thank you Whiskeyman.

    Yes, lj you're correct it is F6 for additional drivers, it's been a while since I installed XP.

    It's been awhile since I worked with XP. I had to look it up to be sure it was F6. So You are not alone.

    Curtis have you tried the XP Upgrade Advisor and does it report any problems/warnings?

    You're asking for step by step instructions, it's unlikely you'll get them unless you answer our questions with further information.

    To answer the above it'll be F7 but one factor that may stop this is using a USB keyboard on a system that relies primarily on PS/2 inputs.

    I'll leave this thread for others now but to be honest you may be better asking someone to install XP on site (and even then I'd have reservations about installing on that system in it's current state).

    eMachines is now owned by Acer so I would not expect a lot of product support
