    Greetings,

I am trying to open source files for my site with an extension of .FLA and when I click or right click on it I get the "open with" dialog. What program would open this type of file???

I am using Windows Me with IE 5.5

    Any suggestions much appreciated....

    I thank you in advance,

    M2M

Hello M2M, welcome to the BBS. That file should be a Macromedia Flash file. If you have Flash Player installed it should open automatically with your IE. If not go to the Macromedia site at: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash and download and install the Flash program.

Let us know how you make out.

Edit: Just checked the Flash site and it is now called Adobe Flash Player and the URL is: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash but the above one works as well. Make sure you uncheck the box for the Yahoo toolbar if you don't want it.

    Thanks John,

I downloaded the latest Player and rebooted . The download did not give me the option to specify where to download. I am still getting the open with dialog and adobe flash player is not in it. I select "other" to search and I do not see the DL. I check adobe, macromedia, program files... nothing.. How can I find it???

Hi again, how did you d/l and install the Flash Player? Did you use the "Install" button on the web page? If so it would automatically d/l and install Flash Player to your Windows directory, exactly where I am not sure as I do not have WinME, but probably to the Window\System32\Macromedia\Flash directory path. Flash runs as an add on to IE not as a stand-a-lone application so that is probably why it is not showing up in "open with ". Are you trying to run the FLA file as a stand-a-lone file, if so may not work as the player is designed to open flash movies, etc. within IE. Not sure how to run as a stand-a-lone, but maybe someone else on the BBS can help out.

You could try to run it by opening it from within your IE browser by using: File>Open>Browse>change the Files of type to "All files" then browse to the fla file and click on open and wait to see what happens. Can do no harm, will either work or not.
