Resolution Won't Change

    How did you recover your system - format and reinstall? in which case you will need to load the chipset and video drivers.

    In any case you should reload the video drivers.

    even updated drivers

    The only problem is when I change the res the computer restarts and goes back to low res.I used the recovery disk. Would I have to start from scratch? A step by step approach would help.Thank You!

    I really need a little more detail to understand exactly how you used the recovery disk - most recovery disks wipe the hard drive and reload an image of the operating system, i.e. start from scratch. In this case all your data and installed programs would be lost - was this the case?

    Aida32 reports an OEM computer - make - model?

    BTW Aida was replaced by Everest many years ago and that has now been discontinued, but is available here

    In Device Manager - right click My Computer > Properties > Device Manager >
    Display Adaptors - what is listed there for the graphics? Is the entry flagged with a yellow ! or ?

    I have located drivers for the nVidia Vanta card, but cannot be sure if they are the correct ones without some of the info above.

    When you change resolution are you given the option to change without rebooting - it is many years since I ran 98 and my mind is XP oriented now :)

    Your graphics adapter is an nVidia based Riva TNT2 Vanta (Creative CT6982) :eek:

    First try going to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings (tab) -> Advanced (button) -> Adapter (tab). Use the Change button, select "Let me choose the device from a list..." See if there is a CT6982 listed under Creative or nVidia. If you select one of those drivers and the New Hardware wizard asks where to find the drivers, IF it shows a list of drives (example floppy, CD, etc), uncheck all the listings. The graphics should work correctly when you reboot.

    If that does not work, remove the Display Adapter in Device Manager (read about Device Manager and Devices in Start -> Help), reboot and go through the New Hardware wizard at startup. Use the default system (click Next) until you see the drive selection screen, uncheck all the drives.

    The recovery disk should have put the correct drivers into your system, you will need to make Windows identify and install them correctly.

    You will see there are many ways to install drivers. You may need to do some trial and error. Since the recovery disk should have "put" the correct driver files in your system, you should just need to make Windows install them (correctly).

    When i removed the adapter and let the wizard install it ,now it's working right.Thank You!! I didn't realize that it was that simple.
