Hi, i was having wierd problems with my computer. I have a HP Omnibook with windows 2000. I didnt use it all summer then when i started it up it would start but the screen would just be black. However i knew it was on b/c when i hit ctrl, alt, delete the box came up. I decided to just try and re install windows 2000. I did this and now i have two problems. First when i start it it asks me which one i want to run and it lists 2 windows 2000, did i not delete it all the way or something?

But my major problem is when it starts up the screen works but it is small. The screen is the size that it is when you start it in safe mode. Did i do something wrong?? I dont know how to fix it....help please

Hopefully you have all your drivers or windows finds them in it's data base.

The reason that your screen image is small is that when installing windows it defaults to a screen resolution of 640X480. Since your monitor has a set number of dots 640X480 only fills part of the screen. If windows recognised drivers for the video just go to control panel/display and set the screen to 800X600 or 1024X768 or what ever resolution fills the screen without over flow. Also set your color depth to the highest available that works well. Either 16, 24, or 32bit.

You can get rid of the menu for which win 2000 to start in control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery. Let the menu time out and load windows. Go to control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery. The active windows (one that is working) should show as default. Uncheck 'display list of operating systems.

On this part I would wait for someone to confirm but I think you should be able to delete the origional windows directory. Make sure you get the right directory! After that you may also want to do a repair install of windows over itsself to straighten things out.

Yes you can certainly delete the windows folder that was used by the old OS and just keep the one you are really using.

Easiest way to be sure which is which is to open a cmd window (start->run->CMD and OK) then tell it to change directories to the current location of the system files.

    CD %systemroot%

Then check to see where it took you. Probably something like WINNT.000 but it will be displayed clearly. Get rid of the other WINNT folder.
