I did an upgrade from 98SE to 2000 and I seem to be on a steep learning curve. When I try to uninstall a program from the add/remove program area without fail it tells me" the feature you are trying to use in on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the "name of the program" yada- This trys to install - Please - what is going on?

You may have to install the app(s) again so all the pieces are where 2K wants them and then do the uninstall.

Surprising that ALL apps do this though. I'd expect it with a few like MS Office but certainly not with all of them on your PC unless the upgrade went badly.

Does everything on there now function as it should?

As far as I can tell for the most part I am doing what I need to, but some of these programs say that they are for 98 not 2000 and reinstall. I can't seem to do anything from the add/remove as far as update-install- remove. I just get this insert CD which does no good. This is so different to me from 98. But there is a good possiblity of a bad install. It was an upgrade.

you probably changed drive letters as part of this migration.

open a command prompt and run this:

    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\joehobart> [B] subst r: c:\[/B]
Where r: is the drive it used to be, and c:\ is the drive it is today.
