Not sure if this issue is considered OS or a hardware proplem, but will start here.
Just recently installed a new graphics card ( VGA Apollo GF4 MX 440 64MB-PCI ) in my eTower 667ir.OS is Windows 2000 Pro.My problems is that after downloading the nVidia driver update from Windows update site my computer froze on restart.Tried several times by rebooting but could never load my desktop.Spent many hours trying to fix but was only able to finally delete drivers and then reinstall graphic card drivers from its CD.
Is this a common problem with Windows driver updates ?I certainly dont want to try this again but would like to upgrade this cards drivers.
I have tried to locate driver updates from Apollo but havent had much success.Thanxz in advance for any insight.

I've heard it several times :(

Device drivers on WindowsUpdate are almost always older versions, the manufacturers web site would be best to get latest drivers.

Try the Nvidia reference drivers. I find these are fine for my GF4 Ti4200 card, and prefer them to the manufacturers drivers that are often exactly the same but a version or two behind.
As they are unified drivers, they will be fine for your card as well.
For my card Windows update keeps wanting me to install a driver from Oct 6 2003. This driver is several versions old. Even with a later driver installed windows update keeps bugging me when I check for updates. :(
