    Hello, today I had 256mb of pc133 ran installed. Prior to that, in device manager all was looking great. Now... there is a question mark besides "other devices" pci communication device. Is it possible the new ram and the ? mark in the device mgr are related? Nothing has changed here but the ram. :confused: Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Good going there.
    You may want to do this little tweak to get a little better performance. Open C:\Windows\System.Ini with Notepad, just double click it.
    There will a section with a heading of [386Enh], just add the following line under it.
    ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

    Hello Mark, thanks. Can't seem to locate what your are reffering. I open notepad, click open to C:\Windows\System but can't see ini. If I understand what your are saying. In msconfig under system ini I see 386Enh. So I guess I'm confused now.

    Thanks again

    You have misunderstood the full path and filename format. C:\Windows\System.Ini means that in the Windows folder there is a file named System.Ini, not a file named 'Ini" in the System folder.
    In Windows Explorer this file may only be listed as System, with Configuration Settings as the file type. System.Dat is not the file.
    Msconfig shows the very same file I am referring to under the System.Ini tab.

    Great news! What that does is force windows to use all your RAM, keeping everything in memory so very little is put to the swap file, increasing performance. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

    Thats great news. Why waste $110 CDN for extra ram if its not being used. Just to make sure I added it under display=*vdd,*vflatd is that ok?
