    Hi-

Absolutely every time we boot up our computer, we get this same annoying Error message that reads:

"CLOSING caused an invalid page fault in
    module CLOSING.EXE at 0177:0041474c.
    Registers:

It doesn't seem to impact our operations, but it sure is annoying. Probably, because we're afraid that it denotes something that could, in fact, become a problem.

Please help us to eliminate the message/problem.

    many thanks.

I can find nothing about "closing.exe" or "module closing.exe" in any searches.

Sooo...here's what I'd do if it were my machine...but, then, I have way too much time on my hands and I enjoy troubleshooting these sorts of things.

First, I'd be hoping somebody would show up here who knows exactly what the problem is and post the fix for it.

While I'm waiting for that to happen, I'd do a search for anything named "closing.exe" on my computer. If there is such a thing, the folder it's in might give me a clue as to what it is and how to get rid of it.

If that yielded nothing helpful, I'd look in msconfig's startup tab for anything resembling "closing.exe" for clues as to what it might be.

Next, if that didn't help track down the source of the problem, I'd run Spybot and AdAware to see if it's any kind of spyware/malware.

If that didn't do the trick, I'd run a full system virus scan and if one didn't find anything, I'd run a second just to be sure. Use the anti-virus program resident on your system if you have one and, if you need a second scan, try either Housecall or Panda. Be forewarned, if you're on a dialup connection, the online scans can take quite a while.

You might want to do an online virus scan at Housecall?

I have looked at three computers all running Win98 and none of them have this file. I would do a find, for this file, right click and select properties, to see what this file belongs to. It could be something that you have uninstalled.

    sorry

We are posting a different problem on the same computer in the Internet explorer section. We have tried everything suggested so far without success. Don't give up.... Barb and Paul.

Follow the advice and find closing.exe on your computer. Do the properties give you any idea what program it belongs to or who made it? What folder is it in?

Download StartpCPL and see if it is lisyed in your startup:

    http://www.mlin.net/files/StartupCPL.zip

If it is, disable it to see if it affects anything.
