Did a search and couldn't find anything. For whatever reason, my computer plays wmv/mpg/mov files just fine. But with avi's, the playback can be choppy.

The video playback on some files seem to speed up for about 0.5 seconds, and then resume normal play, occuring maybe once or twice in any given file. But with most of the avi's, the sound playback is choppy after 15 seconds of playback. Again, this doesn't occur on wmv/mov/mpg's.

Currently, I have the updated manufacturer drivers on the following:
    Sound Blaster Live Value! (PCI)
    Viper V770 TNT2 (non-Ultra, AGP), nvidia chipset
    Win2k Pro SP3
    DivX playback 3.11 drivers

I have tried redownloading the same file a few times, yielding the same result. Files seem to work fine on other systems.

Make sure you don't have the drivers
loaded for an onboard sound card.
I had the same problem with 5 second speedup. I had to start from scratch
but this time did not activate the onboard
sound blaster card. Install the sound blaster live on its own and make sure
to use only preferred devices. I had to get rid of the drivers for the onboard.
    This ended the problem.
