I am trying to import Favorites from my old computer's hard drive to my new computer's Internet Explorer. The hard drive is out of my old computer and connected to my new computer through a USB port and this rocketfish docking type device. The instructions I've been able to find seem to involve opening up the old Internet Explorer and exporting a bookmark.htm file. I can't seem to open up the Internet Explorer from the old hard drive. Any suggestions on how I can access these Favorites?

Some in my family prefer Google Chrome over Internet Explorer so we have both. So I also need to know how to import those bookmarks as well. I can start a separate thread on that or perhaps that could be addressed here as well?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the old computer was Windows XP, access this directory:

Documents & Settings > You old username > Favorites

Copy the files in that folder to: (assuming new computer is Windows 7)

    C:\Users\your current username\Favorites\

If new computer is XP, copy them to:

    C:\Documents & Settings\your current username\Favorites\

If new computer is Windows 7, don't forget to update your System Details in the forum User Control Panel.

Mission accomplished for Internet Explorer! Thanks for your help, TonyT.

Now, how might I do the same for the bookmarks in Google Chrome?

On XP, the Chrome bookmarks are located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

On Windows 7 the Chrome bookmarks are located at:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\

The name of the file is:
    Bookmarks (no extension)

Mission accomplished for the Google Chrome bookmarks, and I've now updated my system specs. Thanks for the reminder and the assistance.
