Mission Statement

Installed IE 6 SP1 from CD yesterday. Since that time, using Print Preview or to print a Web page sometimes gives me an error message. It will still print, but I haven't had the error message before. I have re-installed the IE 6 SP1 ... used the 'repair' option in Control Panel ... typed the error message in Knowledge Base. No help & no change. This error does not come up using print preview and print with notepad, wordpad, printing a message in Outlook Express, printing a JPEG file or pages from the BBS forum. Using Windows98 1st Edition, everything has been updated at Windows Update.

When you go up to tools..then internet options.....then advanced tab.....do you have it set to display a notification about every script error...under "browsing"?
Jack Welch--While you are at the Advanced tab, in addition to making sure "display a notification about every script error" is unchecked as suggested by Daizy, you can check "Disable script debugging" if it is unchecked.
Both of these settings are for people who are writing web sites and want to see what mistakes they have made. You, as the reader, are presumably not interested in the mistakes, and in any event cannot do anything about them.

Thank you Daizy and Welshjim for your responses. I did have 'Display a notification about every script error' unchecked and had 'Disable Script debugging' checked. I do feel the error message may be coming from a setting that I have checked or unchecked incorrectly somewhere. I used the 'Restore Defaults' for my settings on the Advanced page of Internet Options to see if it would make a difference.
I just realized this afternoon that when using 'print preview' or print while connected online, I get no error message at all. That only happens when I have saved a web page online as an *.mht ... then disconnect to print it out. On some files, I get the message ... others, I don't. Puzzling and even when getting the error message, I can click on 'Yes' and print .. or I can click on 'No' and it will still print correctly. I realize I don't have a big problem since it doesn't keep me from using print preview or printing. It's just annoying. Would like to figure it out, but I can live with it. Jack Welch--To complement Daizy's "gander", I "goosed" up www.google.com and searched on flyout.htc http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search
This limited output suggests flyout.htc has something to do with a web site trying to track statistics on visitors.
Maybe there just is something in the code that does not like those particular sites being printed from an .mht file when not connected to the web. (A search on flyout.htc in MSkb produced a quizzical message to the effect that info is not available at present.)
Clicking on that link you gave, leads to a download, but I "chickened" out .
Fowl situation.

Daizy, thanks for that suggestion. I did extract iepeers.dll and re-registered it. Things still seemed to be the same.
Welshjim, thanks for the additional info & the sites on flyout.hic. Very interesting. I did download the flyout.htc file [probably foolish to do so] and scanned it for a virus. I will now delete it ! Your explanation of what is possibly happening sounds right to me.
I looked at my error message again on a few saved *.mht files. Since the error message shows up sometimes [not always] on saved *.mht files, I extracted and installed again from the IE 6 SP1 CD .. several files I thought might be related to them ... mshtml.dll, mshtml.tlb, mshtmled.dll and mshta.exe, then re-registered the *.dll files. I looked in Folder Options for the MHTML document which showed Extensions as MHTML and MHT .. Content Type[MIME]: message/rfc822, and Opens with: IEXPLORE and the print shows using: rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSHTML.DLL,PrintHTML "%1" . I wondered if my settings there had gotten messed up. If no one else is getting this message with IE 6 SP1 installed while saving a web site to a *.mht ... and then printing it, then, I must have changed something. If I figure out what, I'll post back.
You both have spent a lot of time trying to help me figure this out. I do thank you. Jack
brett, thanks much for your suggestion to uncheck 'Enable third-party browser extensions' on Advanced page of Internet Options. It was checked ... so I unchecked it. I don't want to speak too quickly, but it appears to have made a difference. I will continue to check this out. I, also, went to Windows Update site, clicked on Product Updates, and it appears I need nothing there.
I looked over my saved *.mht files All the MSKB articles I had saved didn't have the error ... but the ones with errors were all MSKB articles. Thanks for you help. Jack

As always, it is written in technospeak and the links to provide more info do not work.
However apparently one of the effects of turning that setting off is that Browser Helper Objects, which are ActiveX controls, no longer work.
Now I am thinking out loud and would like to hear from others.
I would think that, without BHO's, several useful programs potentially on the PC would then not work, like pop-up stoppers. I believe (though am not sure) that most/all BHO's are in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files.
Is flyout.htc a BHO? Is it coordinated with one of the BHO's? If yes to either question, is that BHO in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files?
If yes, I would think you can delete that specific BHO and then go back to being able to use the rest of the BHO's by re-enabling "'Enable third-party browser extensions".

I have had BHOCop for quite sometime .. and it has always only shown 1 object:
AcrolEhlprObjClass and the path to the Acroiehelper.ocx file
I downloaded the BHODemon tonight ... ran it and it, also, shows only:
ACOIEHELPER.OCX and the CLSID
Don't know it any of this tells you anything, but I don't have as many errors as I did. I still have the error after I save the MS Knowledge Base site as *.mht ... disconnect then use the 'preview print'.
And I still have an error when I try to preview print the 'List of Fixes in Microsoft Internet ExplorerIE 6 SP1' after having saved it as an *.mht file & being disconnected.
But those are the only 2 that I seem to have the script error with, now ... at least, that is how it seems since yesterday ... and this is only when I have saved the file and disconnected and used the 'print preview'. No errors show when I am online and use the 'print preview' on even those 2.
So things 'are looking up for me', thanks to you. I appreciate the help. This has been puzzling & challenging .... but it has, also, been interesting and I've learned more ... thanks to you, Daizy, brett and Jim. Jack
Disabling the BHO’s provides a (less than satisfactory) workaround rather than a fix. AFAIK, there has been no definitive solution found to this problem as yet. Some people have reported that replacing iepeers.dll provided a resolution; others that ridding their system of surfairy.dll did the trick. You might wish to explore these possibilities further.
