A few weeks ago the standard mouse arrow in IE8 has changed to a
(fist like) hand which changes to an pointing finger when you point on a link.
It means that without an arrow I cannot mark any tekst or other things for copying etc.
I have tried different mouse-settings but nothing helps. Cannot find any relevant IE or w7 settings.
Changing to IE9 shows same result- so maybe it is W7? I use w7/64 bit.
Using Chrome on the same pc and XP and W7 on another pc works fine.

Have you tried changing pointers in Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer tab? Click once on "Normal select" to indicate that's the one you want to change, then click the Browse button to look through the pointers available. When you find the one you want, click on it once to select it, then click the Open button.

Once you've changed it to a pointer you like, uncheck "Allow themes to change mouse pointers," which may have been the cause of the change.

Be sure to click OK when done to save any changes you make.

Yes, I have tried many of the options, but just this 'hand' does not change. It can only move the window (hold left botton) and and activate a link. In an input text area (like this one) it works normally.

If the problem is confined strictly to Internet Explorer, try running IE without any add-ons: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools> "Internet Explorer (no add-ons). "

If the cursor works as it should then, it means one of the add-ons is causing the problem.

The only way to determine which add-on is at fault is to run IE normally, go to Tools>Manage Add-ons and start disabling/re-enabling them one at a time, checking each time to see if the cursor has returned to normal.

I'm out of ideas on this one.

Someone else may have the solution, though, so don't give up!

I have found, that when I add an user he gets the correct mouseicon????
But I cannot see any differences when I compare the IE-settings.

The new account had the correct icon, but copy to the new user was not useable due to a lot of missing links, access to folders etc.

    Yes I did.
But now I found the solution:
ALT gives you a menuline->View-> 'add/remove commands' where is a 'hand tool' placed in the left side.
Moving it to the right side it becomes active and can be switched on/off (ALT-G).

    Bingo
    , solved.

I'm glad you found a solution - I don't see any hand tool in IE 8 on W7 x64 under Add/remove Commands. I wonder where it came from? A theme maybe.
