Pleeeeease help. I have search high and low and tried almost everything I have found on the internet about solving this problem (other borwse, clearing cookies, new DNS server, etc) and "no juice ". :( Every other website seems to work OK on my PC (Compaq w/Windos XP), but about a month ago I could no longer sign in to Facebook. Facebook.com comes up, but when I type my login info it reditrects to a page that says, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage ". I can access FB on another PC at home (the kids), but not on mine. What else can I do?

Its apparent that there is something in your system that is blocking connection to the web page in question. Your facebook account is obviously working so you need to try a few things with your own PC to find out why it is blocking the connection. I suspect there is an infection causing this. Please first check the advise given by TonyT, strange things can happen with an infection so have a look in restricted sites just to make sure (sorry to repeat this if you have actually already looked).

Then follow the advise in this article.

Well, I guess I should just give up.:( I already had Malwarebytes and it found nothing. I just tried Combofix and it deleted some toolbar, but nothing. I still cannot log on to Facebook.

We don't give up that easy.

From your (problem) computer, open a command prompt and type tracert www.facebook.com >c:\trace.txt

Copy the contents of trace.txt in your next reply.

    Also check with nslookup facebook.com

Sorry that I have to ask: Do you have parents or a loved one in the house that would prefer you not going to facebook?

Also, the hosts file could be mapping facebook.com to localhost.

pastorjoe777, your problem seems to stem from the fact that you have your DNS set to your router, not your ISP.

While that is an IP for facebook, everything else seems to point to one of the 69.63.x.x addresses.

Those 69.63.x.x IPs are Facebook IP addresses.
    Code:
Source	TTL	Address Type	Record Type1	Resolution
    facebook.com.	2770	IN	A	69.63.189.16
    facebook.com.	2770	IN	A	69.63.181.12
    facebook.com.	2770	IN	A	69.63.189.11
    facebook.com.	96357	IN	NS	ns3.facebook.com.
    facebook.com.	96357	IN	NS	ns4.facebook.com.
    facebook.com.	96357	IN	NS	ns5.facebook.com.
    facebook.com.	96357	IN	NS	ns1.facebook.com.
    facebook.com.	96357	IN	NS	ns2.facebook.com.
I suggest changing the DNS server in the router itself to other than Verizon DNS servers.

Also, verify correct LAN settings in IE > Tools Menu > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN settings button > nothing should be checkmarked there.

Thanks Arie and Tony for taking time to help me with this. How could this happen? Would someone have had to do it manually or was it a bug? Anyway, your responses seem to be the answer to correctig the problem, but I have no clue how to correct it. Changing DNS server in router is something I have never heard of. I know I have access to the router via the website and there are a bunch of controls I can change, but I do not want to make the situation worse by changing the wrong thing(s). Any suggestions?

First try this in address bar:
    http://69.63.189.16/ (just click it here)
and you should be taken to facebook.

If not, then there's something on your computer that is blocking facebook.com and its IP addresses. And we will proceed to tshoot if necessary.

Tony, as I indicated in my original post I can login to facebook.com, but I am redirected to the "IE cannot display webpage" page when I try to login in. The link above took me to facebook.com and that is as far as I can get. After typing my email and password I can go no further. :(
