Suddenly about a week ago I am unable to launch Internet Explorer. I am running Windows Vista Premium. When I click on the icon it acts as if it is searching and then nothing. I am able to get on the internet through Google Chrome but that is it. I am unable to access my Earthlink homepage and any of my favorites.
Any ideas? I have run every recovery possible on my HP laptop, tried directly through Microsoft and it found nothing wrong

Hi julieallison, Welcome to Windowsbbs. I'm not familiar with Vista but it comes with IE7 oiginally. What version did you have IE7 or IE8? Did you have any recent changes to your laptop? Have you had any recent MS updates? Have a look in Add/Remove Programs and see if there are recent additions which may be causing a problem. Try an uninstall and see if that helps.
Someone with Vista Savvy wiil come along and be of more help than I can. Neil.

Hi julieallison, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

    Try Resetting Internet Explorer.

If you are running IE7 then you can try installing IE8 and testing the issue. By the way does the computer have Service Pack 2 installed?

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

    Hi Julie,

I suggest you upgrade to IE8. IE8 is faster and safer than IE 7. It is also compatible with more sites than any other browser. If you are concerned with the way IE 8 will interact with sites you are visiting, you should check out Compatibility Mode which allows you to view sites as they would appear in IE 6 or IE 7, with the added security and speed of IE 8. Here's some more information: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2009/02/16/just-the-facts-recap-of-compatibility-view.aspx

Here is a link to get you started:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_a

If that doesn’t work for you, try right clicking on your Internet Explorer icon --> properties

On the Shortcut tab where it says Target: make sure that "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" is entered.

Click apply and then try opening Internet Explorer again from that icon.
    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    Bryn
