I recently upgraded to IE 8 from IE 7; I also added Fire Fox as an internet connection as well. For a couple of weeks, everything seem to work just fine. Oh, one more thing; I also changed the virus protection program from Mcaffe to Norton.

The Fire Fox is working fine but the IE 8 is not. I have a registry program named REGWork to clear up any registry issues; but to no avail, the IE 8 is still not connecting.

This is the message I get when I ran a diagnostics:

Last diagnostic run time: 05/22/10 16:11:52
    HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostic
    HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity

info FTP (Passive): Successfully connected to ftp.microsoft.com.
warn HTTP: Error 12029 connecting to www.microsoft.com: A connection with the server could not be established
warn HTTP: Error 12029 connecting to www.hotmail.com: A connection with the server could not be established
info HTTPS: Successfully connected to www.microsoft.com.
error Could not make an HTTP connection.
info Redirecting user to support call

After researching the FAQ's; I didn't see any posts that reflected my problem.

Is there a solution available for my problem?

    1. go to the McAffee site, find, download and run the McAffee uninstaller to cleanup leftover McAffee stuff.

    2. check the Norton firewall and allow IE.

What I would do is run system restore and restore to a point about 2 weeks ago (prior to installing Norton). Then remove the McAffee leftovers and then reinstall Norton.

Note: registry cleaners like you use will do more damage than good, they are useless software.

Thank you for your assistance. The Fire Fox Browser would not access the Mcafee uninstaller.

I ran a system restore as suggested and no changes were made to the system. After reading some of the other blogs again. I wanted to check the Explorer for other users on my unit. I am the administrator for this unit. I switched users and was able to successfully log onto the Internet Explorer. I then switched back to my user account and checked. I received the same 12099 connection failure message.

What you suggest at this point?

    Than k you,

    Lon
