When I startup the pc and click on IE8 (with XP Home) it takes about +1 min. to get to my home page. That is a lot slower than it used to be. Once I get my homepage, things run fairly fast...about 10 sec to open the homepage from another site. I empty temp files, defrag, clean disks, scan for malware etc.fairly regularly. Is there anything I can do to speed up IE 8? Thanks.

I tried what you suggested...sorry to say, that things are about the same.:( I even chose all of IE 8's recommended features this time when it started. Previously, I ignored things like the accelerators. Maybe I'm stuck with this..things do work well after the initial startup.

The only other thing that I can think of that would make IE8 slow is if you had a large hosts file installed. I saw in your signature that you have Spybot Search and Destroy installed.

Try this, click Start< Run and type services.msc and hit enter. The Services window will open. Scroll down and highlight the DNS Client Service. After its highlighted right click it and select properties. The properties window will open and under startup type set it to disabled. Press ok to apply the changes and reboot the computer.

Is there any change in the speed of IE8 now?

Try setting it to a different Home Page. Maybe the site you're linked too isn't the fastest in the world.

I did what Evan suggested and it seemed that the homepage started faster. :) I'm going to try it several more times...I hope it wasn't a fluke!

I have tried rebooting several times and the homepage is opening about twice as fast...:) I guess 30 secs or so is acceptable? Thanks for all your time and effort! :):)
