Resolved Java IE 8 32bit or 64bit

    I have recently had several popup windows telling me I need me I need Java or Java update. Java site tells me I'm using IE 8 32bit, I was supprised since I have Win 7 64 bit . Do I need IE 8 64 bit and if so where do I find it or is it OK to keep using 32 bit? Would I notice any problems either way?

    IE8 32 Bit is the default in Windows 7, 32Bit or 64Bit. IE8 64 Bit is available in the start menu, but, at the moment, cannot riun Flash or be established as the default.

    If you have changed nothing, then you will be running the 32 Bit IE8 and need to install Java 32Bbit

    There are actually very few 64 bit programs available - Photoshop CS4 is one - the majority of programs are still 32 bit.

    In Windows 7 x64 you will see 2 Program Files folders - Program files (these are 64 bit programs) and Program Files (x86) (these are 32 bit programs)

    Windows 7 x64 runs both 32 bit & 64 bit programs - 64 bit versions may be ~10 % faster than their 32 bit counterparts.

    By default - in Pro at least, both 32 bit and 64 bit IE8 is installed - thus there are 2 versions of Java too. By default the 32 bit version of IE8 is used

    You will find that 32 bit IE8 is just fine - that's what I use. AFAIK the 64 bit version of IE8 lacks some features of the 32 bit version.
