On my 1st Dell computer IE8 does not start at startup which is what I want. On my 2nd Dell, IE 8 loads at startup. I searched msconfig but no IE is listed. Any suggestions?

Right Click on the Task Bar then click on Properties click on the Start Menu Tab.
Click on the Customize Button. Then Click on Add. Paste this in the "Type in the Location of the item: "
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Then Press Next > Another window will open "Select a folder to place this shortcut in: "
Scroll down until you see the Startup Folder and select it. Then press Next > then press Finish. Now IE8 is added to your Startup.

    Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
    No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Paste the content into your next reply.

I read the OP post -
The process I gave works. Not sure what you are looking for. I tried it and IE starts on startup.

msconfig in startup does not show it before and it does afterwords.

Would you call this a workaround ?

I guess the more and more I read it - your both right.

Would not IE be in the Startup folder if it was starting on startup ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but - IE does not have any setting in it for it to start on startup.

That's why I need to see Autoruns log.
Some infections will also make IE to run at startup.

Don't know why but the problem fixed itself. If it comes back, I'll be back.
